Scholarship update - Sylvia Barnes

In the Spring of 2025 I was lucky enough to be awarded a Dante Alighieri Society Scholarship to be used during my semester abroad in Milan, Italy. I arrived in Milan in September and went on to have an amazing and unforgettable four months in Italy. While studying at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, I took classes about the history of Italian film and media, cuisine in different Italian regions, and Italian language, of course. These classes took me to galleries, museums, and even to a news station’s TV studio! Getting to explore Milan with my professors and classmates was one of the highlights of my study abroad experience. Outside of class, I explored Milan must-sees, such as the Pinacoteca di Brera, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Sforza Castle, The Last Supper, La Scala, the Navigli canals, and so much more. My study abroad program also took us on a rooftop tour of the Duomo di Milano and weekend excursions to Bologna, Verona, and Lake Como. I am so incredibly grateful to the Dante Alighieri Society of Denver and for the scholarship I received, as it made this amazing study abroad experience possible.
